Permits available based on your age, investment capacity, and professional profile
The Occupation Permit Professional is reserved for employees of companies incorporated under Mauritian law. The employer must commit to paying a salary of more than Rs 60,000 (€1,550) or Rs 30,000 in the new technologies sector. In order to obtain this permit, it is essential to be able to show the local authorities diplomas in sectors encouraged by the government.
The Occupation Permit Self Employed (self-employed entrepreneur) requires you to be able to show on a Mauritian personal account the sum of $35,000 (€30,000) that can be used freely to launch your business, but also for your relocation. You must then declare a minimum of Rs600,000 (€15,000), and then Rs1,200,000 (€30,000) in annual turnover to the Mauritian authorities.
The Occupation Permit Investor (OPI) is the permit most easily granted by local authorities. It requires an investment of $100,000 (€85,000) in a Mauritian company and an annual turnover of Rs4 million (€102,000). NEW since September 1, 2017, it is possible to contribute 3/4 of the investment in equipment.
The Occupation Permit Retired non-citizen is reserved for persons aged 50 and over
Since September 1, 2017, this permit only requires proof to the Mauritian authorities of a monthly income of at least $2,500 (€2,100). This permit does not allow you to receive a salary, but it does not prevent you from being a shareholder in a Mauritian company. Each of these permits is granted for a renewable period of three years.
On average, it takes 3 to 4 weeks to obtain your permit and 10 days for your dependents (partner, children under 24) (conversions into euros may vary depending on exchange rates). Under certain financial conditions, it is possible to obtain a Permanent Resident Permit for a period of 10 years, renewable after 3 years.
